It is my great pleasure, as president of GTAAN, to introduce you to Georgia Tech’s Academic Advising
Network and our website. GTAAN believes that advising is a developmental process in which we guide students through their educational experience to reach their full potential. In order for this process to be successful, advisors must have access to new information about campus reources and best practices in advising. This our mission.

All academic advisors, faculty advisors and student support specialists at Georgia Tech are encouraged to join and participate in our activities.

The GTAAN Executive board (see Executive Board tab) plans monthly meetings and develops specific activities and initiatives based on needs of our advisors. GTAAN also hosts an annual statewide Best Practices Event each summer.

One of my initiatives as President focuses on increasing appreciation and visibility of Academic Advising at
Georgia Tech. GTAAN has already made much progress in creating awareness of the field of academic
advising and its importance and I would like to take advantage of that success. This initiative is very important to me because what we do is so fundamental to student success, yet our impact and contributions so often underestimated and under-recognized. Creating the first Advising newsletter in Fall 2006, revamping the GTAAN website, publishing “Academic Advisor Tip of the Week” in 2006 in the Technique, and featuring advising profiles each month on the website are just a few of the activities we are working on to meet this mission.

A special thanks to the Executive Board for their time, passion and hard work and to all of you who support Academic Advisors each day. We truly appreciate your participation in GTAAN and it is a privilage to serve as President of GTAAN.

Please feel free to contact me or any of the other board members if you are interested in participating in one of the committees or voicing concerns, praises or suggestions.

Warmest Wishes

Elizabeth Miller
